چکیده

Abstract Macroscale cleavage fracture toughness of high strength steels is strongly related to the hard microstructural inclusions. Therefore, an accurate determination local stress on these inclusions based matrix necessary for statistical modelling macroscale fracture. This paper presents analytical equations quantitatively estimate from far-field matrix. The account inclusion shape, orientation, state and material properties. Finite element a representative volume containing shows that provide representation state. are implemented into multi-barrier model compared with CTOD experiments two different levels constraint.

Understanding Mechanical Properties of Novel High Strength Steel Weld Metals Through High-Resolution Microstructural Investigations

Shielded metal arc welding and submerged arc welding were used to prepare experimental weld metals with variations in nickel, manganese and carbon contents. The weld metals contained Ni between 6.6 and 10.5 wt. %, Mn between 0.5 and 2.0 wt. % while carbon was varied between 0.03 and 0.11 wt. %. Mechanical properties were found to be sensitive to alloying content. However once the optimum level ...

Stress- Corrosion Crack Initiation of High-strength Pipeline Steel in Near-neutral pH Environments

Stress-corrosion cracking (SCC) tests were conducted in the near-neutral pH standard solution, NS4, and in an actual soil solution, using four-point bending at a high stress ratio and low frequency conditions very similar to those of operational pipelines. Pitting incubation appeared first and then pitting initiated and grew in both solutions although there were many more pits on the specimen t...

MICROSTRUCTURAL STUDIES ON LASER WELDING OF INCONEL 718 TO 2304 DUPLEX STAINLESS STEEL WITH A FOCUS ON OPTIMAZING PROCESS PARAMETERS AND ACHIEVING THE MAXIMUM FRACTURE STRENGTH

In this research, microstructure and mechanical properties of laser welded joints between 2304 duplex stainless steel and Inconel 718 nickel-based super alloy were investigated. Microstructural evolution in the various areas of welded joints and also the effect of welding parameters on the mechanical properties of dissimilar joints were studied. Response surface methodology based on the central...

Local Approach to Strength Mis-Match Effect on Cleavage Fracture of Notched Material

This paper discusses the strength mis-match effect on cleavage fracture of notched materials based on the local approach. The aim of the study is to verify the independence of the critical Weibull stress at fracture on the strength mis-match condition. Diffusion bonded joints were made with two materials S and H different in strength level. Two types of 3-point bend specimen were extracted. One...

A Two Parameter Fracture Mechanics Approach to Analyze Threaded Fasteners of A High Strength Steel

This paper presents a numerical investigation using the two-parameter fracture mechanics approach for studying threaded fastener geometries. It was found that the constraint arising from the presence of a surface crack in a threaded fastener does influence the stress in the forward sector. Consequently, the actual stress field shows a deviation from the theoretical HRR solution. Implementation ...
